Did you go to the store to buy hand sanitizer only to find that they were out of stock? So frustrating right?!? Well turns out you probably already have the ingredients to make your own hand sanitizer gel. With just two ingredients you can make your own bottle of hand sanitizer gel!

While the CDC recommends that you use soap and water whenever possible we know as busy moms that sometimes we just can’t get to a bathroom. Naturally, we grab the next best thing, hand sanitizer. I like to make my own products when I can and definitely when it is this easy!

Ingredients/Materials

DIY Hand Sanitizer Gel

A couple of things before we get into making the gel. First, your alcohol needs to be at 91%. Otherwise, it’s not really effective in fighting germs. I first tried mixing with a spoon but found that a whisk works much better. I made just enough to fill a small bottle. If you want to make a bigger batch simply double or triple the recipe.

Step 1: Pour 1/2 of a cup of 91% isopropyl alcohol into a small bowl or measuring cup.

As I mentioned before, you will need to have at least 91% isopropyl alcohol in order to have a sanitizer that contains 60% alcohol which is the recommended amount to be effective.

Step 2: Pour 1/4 of a cup of aloe gel into the same container as the alcohol.

I chose an aloe gel that was soothing but any aloe gel will do.

Step 3: Whisk Together

Step 4: Pour into your bottle

Make sure your bottle is clean before adding your newly made hand sanitizer. I used a funnel and it was perfect for the job! As you whisk your mixture will start to thicken to the consistency of store bought hand sanitizer gel.

That’s it! Super simple! Be sure to also grab this free handwashing poster for kids!
