Hi. I’m Tamikia!
I started Behind the Mom Bun in the early days of motherhood—when the baby was crying, the coffee was cold, and the only thing holding me together was a messy top knot and a whole lot of prayer.
Back then, this space was filled with kid printables and parenting hacks. But life changed, and so did I.
In 2023, my husband was diagnosed with brain cancer. For two years, I balanced caregiving, parenting, and processing a kind of heartbreak I never imagined. After he passed, I was left to figure out who I was beyond wife, mom, and full-time caregiver.
But here’s what I’ve learned:
You don’t have to lose a spouse to feel lost.
Motherhood is messy. Life is complicated. And grief comes in all forms.
Behind the Mom Bun is now a space for moms navigating the hard, the holy, and everything in between. Whether you’re overwhelmed, grieving, growing, healing, or all of the above—you belong here.
This is a blog for:
- Women walking through loss—of a person, of control, of identity
- Moms carrying more than they let on
- Those trying to hold onto faith when everything feels heavy
- And anyone who needs a soft place to land
I don’t have perfect answers, but I do believe in sharing truth with tenderness, grace without judgment, and hope that’s not afraid to get its hands dirty.
You’re not alone, friend. Not even a little. Let’s figure this out together—messy buns and all.
